What We Do
Hoosier Beer Geek was created in 2006 as an excuse to drink and rate beer. Using the title "The Knights of the Beer Roundtable", we post about the results of these tastings here for the beer consuming public. Though based in Indianapolis, we strive to maintain a site that is worthwhile for readers anywhere.Hoosier Beer Geek was founded with a simple mission: drink great beer and talk about it.
Over the years, this mission has brought us together with people from various backgrounds, including artists, restaurateurs, chefs, entrepreneurs, and other civic leaders. While we didn’t originally anticipate cultivating relationships with these people, we’ve come to value the camaraderie that has blossomed as a result of our befriending them. What’s more, these relationships have allowed us to see that craft beer is about so much more than just drinking. Indeed, we now know that craft beer intersects with art, literature, music, food, urban affairs, economics, manufacturing, religion, and politics, not only locally but nationally.
Originally, drinking beer was our destination. Today, it’s our starting point. So in 2011, Hoosier Beer Geek is still about drinking great beer and talking about it. But sometimes, these beer discussions will lead us to talk about something more than just the beer.
In addition to our ongoing mission, we continue our work with the Brewers of Indiana Guild to coordinate their beer festival efforts. We are now in charge of lining up breweries/participants, volunteer coordination, event layout, setup and teardown, event advertisement/artwork, and ticket sales for the Indiana Microbrewers Festival (Summer), Winterfest, along with similar efforts for the Bloomington Craft Beer Fest (new in 2011).
In 2010 we worked locally with Metromix to create a guild to Indianapolis Breweries, which led us to regular work as correspondents with the Indianapolis Star.
We also throw many events of our own, which we encourage you to attend. You can find more information on these events on our event page.
Despite our ever-expanding scope, we hope to continue to support those involved with better beer locally. If you own a location that carries better beer, are located in the state of Indiana and would like us to visit, please drop us a line. We are here to support you.
